Abstract

We do molecular dynamics of shear-driven jamming of ellipsoidal particles with contact-only interaction. From isotropic, static, jamming it has been found that the change from spherical to ellipsoidal particles introduce a set of quartic vibrational modes, and the question is what the consequences of these modes are for shear-driven jamming. We have found that they lead to a very different microscopic dynamics and the further question is if they also give dramatic effects on macroscopic quantities. We focus on both the macroscopic friction, for which our preliminary results point to a dramatic change, and on the diffusion constant, for which the present evidence is inconclusive.
