Complex magnetism in Mott insulators at high pressure
We will investigate non-collinear magnetism and the spin-lattice interactions of primarily MOCl compounds at high pressure. These are reported to be Mott-insulators showing spin-spiral states, and spin-Peierls-states, but very few theoretical investigations have been done. Recently, these compounds were shown experimentally to enter structurally complicated phases, described by a superspace approach. We will perform calculations to understand the interplay between magnetism and the peculiar crystallography of these compounds.
