Abstract

A cyclone gasifier is an apparatus for gasification of pulverised fuels that uses the cyclone separation principle for separation of gas and ash/char. The present project investigates the multi-phase flow sub model in a complex CFD-based model of the gasifier that also includes heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reaction, heat & mass transfer and radiation. A series of simulations using different mesh sizes and number of representative particles in the Eulerian-Lagrangian model will be used to estimate the numerical errors. These results will be used to determine how fine the mesh and particle resolution must be to avoid swamping the effects of the chemical model with numerical errors.
