Abstract

The aim of the project is to compare surface to subsurface traits in the structures of Sphagnum species in a bog and to relate this to species capillarities and susceptibility to freezing stress at different water to dry mass ratios. Surface traits depend the measurement of an undisturbed surface and the proposal is to use photogrammetric techniques to reconstruct 90 quadrats from at least 300 photographs each. From these reconstructions we will calculate surface roughness an important trait in water transport in Sphagnum and peatlands
