Optimization of active control strategies for wave energy converters
It is widely acknowledged in the wave energy research and development community that a control of a wave energy absorption device can improve it performance significantly. Different approaches to find an optimum control sequence of commands have been proposed. However, optimization tasks are usually time demanding. The majority of studies on wave energy converter (WEC) control are focused on purely hydro-mechanical models of WECs. In the present study, the WEC is presented by a number of differential equations embracing two key parts of the WEC: hydro-mechanical part (power absorption) and electrodynamic part (power conversion). The project will contribute to wave energy research conducted at the Division of Electricity, Uppsala University.
