Abstract

We will study the effect of using scrubbers on ship traffic in the Baltic Ocean. Using scrubbers changes the size distribution and total amount of particulate matter (PM) released into the atmosphere. The release of PM from ship traffic affects the microphysics in marine clouds, which in turn affects the Earth's radiation budget as well the distribution of precipitation. We will use a meteorological chemistry transport model (WRF-Chem) to model the effect of changes in emissions from ship traffic on the Baltic Sea, mainly by looking at changes in cloud cover and precipitation
