Variant calling in Ischnura elegans
Climate change and habitat fragmentation are considered key pressures on biodiversity and are factors which contribute to range shifts. Ischnura elegans is a range expanding species currently expanding into Spain where it meets and hybridize with its sister species I. graellsii. Our sampling design covers the species' distribution in Spain and adjacent Africa and Europe, and the project utilises next-generation DNA sequencing (Illumina Re-seq of a few individuals per taxa and RAD sequencing of approx 200 individuals). The overarching aim of the proposal is to study population differentiation and introgression in these two species, with practical implications for predicting climate change impacts on organisms.
