Abstract

We attempt to design colloidal building blocks by tuning their intermolecular interactions such as to create the colloidal analogues of directional molecular interactions, which will end in host-guest systems and specific binding. We do this by using oppositely charged thermo-responsive particles with complementary shapes such as spheres and bowls to implement an externally controllable lock and key self-assembly mechanism.
