Abstract

Transcriptomic analysis of olfactory tissues (antennae and palpae) of several species of Tephritid fruit flies will be conducted. Chemosensory genes will be annotated and studied within species and evolutionary analyses across closely related species will also be conducted. The objective is to identify and characterize olfactory receptor and related genes in pest insect species, such that the knowledge gained may contribute to better sustainable pest control strategies. This project will be part of a funded PhD project, and the PhD student will be added to the project in the near future.
