Abstract

Researches concerning deep hydrology and carbon dioxide storage in deep saline aquifers, and hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") is conducted by the Uppsala University geohydrology group within several different research projects; TRUST (EU), FRACKRISK (EU) In the projects described above, large scale computational simulations are essential. Based on the improved process models, conceptual and numerical models will be developed for analyzing CO2 injection and storage, and hydraulic fracturing, then applied at a number of test sites representing different geological settings and geographical locations in Europe. Also research on the safety assessment of deep geological disposal for radioactive waste (to support decision-making by the Swedish authorities): SSM - Sparse channel networks for flow in fractured bedrock and SSM - Bentonite barriers
