Abstract

Diatom diazotrophic associations are important biogeochemical symbiotic systems for the worlds oceans. The genomes of the symbiotic cyanobacteria have been sequenced, while the genomes for the diatoms are currently unknown. Using single symbiotic cells as template, genomes were sequenced on Illumina to aquire genoe information for both partners. Our working hypothesis is the genome of the symbiotic diatoms should be modified for a symbiotic life history.
