Abstract

Recently a large chromosomal inversion has been identified as being responsible for radical sexual morphs in the Ruff (Philomachus pugnax). Using recently acquired PacBio and Chromium sequencing data I wish to probe the evolutionary dynamics occurring between the inverted and non-inverted alleles. Preliminary data suggests that divergent evolution of the alleles may include copy number variation in genes linked to the phenotype. This aims to enhance our understanding of the role inversions play in natural variation and Darwinian selection.
